The father of the victim, whose name is RG Kar, broke down in the court where the biggest accused, Sanjay Roy, was accused of making such a heinous crime and found guilty. This case occurred just over five months ago, and it shook the nation, essentially speaking.
The police eventually concluded that Sanjay Roy, a former civic volunteer with the Kolkata Police, raped the lady, as Sections 64 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) specify, while Sections 66 and 103(1), which spell out punishment for death and murder, fell under the relevant statutes The semi-naked body of the 31-year-old trainee doctor was discovered on the third floor of the seminar hall at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9 last year. Roy was arrested on the 10th of this August at home.
The additional district and sessions judge declared his views in the Sealdah court: the grief-stricken father of the lady offered words of thanks through tearful eyes. That comment inferred: “You have honoured the faith we had in you.”
The punishment is yet to be announced on Monday.
On the other hand, the proof of his testimony remains “I didn’t commit this. Why were you allowing others to abscond after committing it?” The judge assured defendant Roy that his opportunity to present his case would be there during Monday’s proceedings.
Sanjay Roy has been in Presidency Jail and continues to claim innocence; although the CID alleged that he was a lone killer, the victim’s father also harbored fears of Roy working with some other guys. A different demand for examination was filed by the family members to seek a proper investigation into the case.
The Delhi Police were looking into the criminal aspect of the case before the CID took charge on the evening of August 10. Then, on August 12, the Calcutta High Court transferred the entire investigation to the CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation) so as to be informed and not partial.
The trial was held in an in-camera manner that even began on November 12 and wrapped up on January 9 where 50 people had provided their witness. The victims kept demanding justice before numerous intervals, making clear about lapses in investigation that may take place.
It has invited the wrath of many a people who call for a quick and exemplary punishment to be handed down upon the wrongdoer. With the date scheduled for punishment coming closer, the nation awaits eagerly for the decision, hoping that this should serve as a deterrent towards such a horror.
